Q & A with Phil...
- How has APU transformed you?
- APU has allowed me to look deeply into the broken places in my life, but also provided a safe place to seek after the One who mends and makes me whole again. I have come to know my Abba in a way that I had never imagined or anticipated. Through this growth and transformation spiritually, I have also been able to learn who I am as a leader and member of the global community. APU has opened the door to the continued journey of finding my purpose on Earth and given me the tools needed to fulfill that purpose. I live every day differently because of the transformation that has happened while I was a student at APU.
- Which activities at APU have you most enjoyed being a part of?
- I really enjoyed being a part of Residence Life and being an RA in the freshmen dorms; being able to be a part of such a pivotal time in students’ lives was a great experience. I also enjoyed doing local ministries in Azusa from Best Buddies to Peach Factory, a ministry that works with children in Azusa to provide tutoring and after-school programs. In addition, I loved going on mission trips during the summer through our Office of World Missions. I was fortunate to travel to Guatemala and learn about community outside of the U.S. Finally, I was able to serve as a part of the Associated Student Body where I was stretched in leading and working with a team. There were so many areas to get involved in, each impacting a different part of who I am.
- What advice would you give to prospective students?
- Do not give the decision of where to go to college too much power over you. Thankfully we have a God who is bigger than our decisions. Go visit schools, seek advice from your friends and family, and find a place that fits. In the end, God will lead you to where you need to be, but through it all rest in the fact that God guides and above all is FAITHFUL. Trust Him for the decision.
- How do you spend your free time?
- I love hanging out with good friends, laughing, and having conversations that are meaningful. I cannot live without frozen yogurt, specifically 21 Choices. I sometimes go twice a day! I enjoy running, playing tennis, and sometimes, if I can get myself to sit for long enough, read a good book. Any other free time is spent eating Swedish fish, which I love!
