Q & A with Sam...

How has APU transformed you?
During my time at APU, I had the incredible opportunity to drink deeply from the wells of wisdom of the amazing faculty. I also found an enriching learning environment in which me and my fellow classmates were able to explore the nexus of business, theology, and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus following God’s Mission in the world. The transformation that resulted from this was becoming a holistic Christian, fully devoted to being a more faithful disciple-scholar.
Which activities at APU have you most enjoyed being a part of?
At APU, it is about people! People are what make this university community what it is, and from my very first week as an incoming transfer student back in 2002, I was part of Team Transfer with other fellow transfers. It was quite unique to be enmeshed in a community of students who were all in a new place, on a similar journey, and with similar experiences in the transfer process. I also took part in several of the intramural sports and two trips to Zambia with our life-changing summer mission teams. As I look back, I value the time I shared with friends studying and growing.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
I have learned it is crucial to not just ask, “What will this university give me?” but to ask, “What kind of person do I want to become?” and then ask, “Will this university help set me on the course to becoming that kind of person?” Definitely visit a variety of schools and inquire into opportunities they have for prospective students to be immersed in their community life.
How do you spend your free time?
I love to read, especially things pertaining to theology and philosophy, and I also enjoy writing and maintain a personal blog with my musings. I enjoy traveling and seeing new cities and countries. When I am relaxing, I enjoy watching Sports Center and my Dodgers!
