Mexicali Mayor Visits APU February 1, 2007
On February 14, APU welcomes Mexicali Mayor Samuel Ramos Flores, First Lady Graciela Salas de Ramos, and their delegation to the campus for the first time in the nearly 40-year relationship between APU and Mexicali. This event commemorates our long-standing history and partnership with the people of Mexicali and gives tangible expression to the goal of intentional internationalization. The mayor’s full-day visit includes dialog with the mayor’s delegation, our President’s Cabinet and Institute for Outreach Ministries staff, local dignitaries, and other agencies. One of the most momentous events during the mayor’s visit will be a presentation on the collaboration between the U.S. and Mexicali, immigration issues, and growth and development of the region. The first lady, president of social services, will address the role the agency and other organizations play in assisting the disadvantaged and disenfranchised of Mexico. This distinctly Mexican perspective offers us an opportunity to understand the complexity of border issues and challenge our American assumptions. Five hundred seats will be offered for the 3-4:30 p.m. presentation on February 14 in Upper Turner Campus Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets must be obtained in advance at the Institute for Outreach Ministries on East Campus, or the Felix Event Center box office on West Campus, and will be available beginning Monday, February 5. For additional information on the presentation, contact the Institute for Outreach Ministries at (626) 812-3027. |
