APU Joins Local Conservation Efforts
October 24, 2007

Dear APU Cougars,

In June, the city of Azusa officially declared a Phase I drought condition. This declaration had a direct affect on the utilization of water at our Azusa campus.

Beginning November 1, the city will declare a Phase II water conservation mandate, requiring the university to reduce water consumption by 10 percent. We anticipate Phase III conservation mandate by December 1, requiring water consumption be reduced by 20 percent.

Facilities Management has developed a plan to comply with these declarations. Please join us by helping to be our eyes on the grounds and immediately report any leaky faucets, broken water pipes/sprinklers, or excessive runoff to the Facilities Management work order desk at (626) 815-3527.

Due to the water conservation plan, there will be residual esthetic impact on our Azusa campuses. Some of the things you may see as a result of these efforts include:

  • Browning of some landscaped areas including grass areas.
  • Unsightly staining of landscape (sidewalks, patios, etc.)
  • Dirty APU vehicles
  • Fountains shut off

Thank you for your understanding as APU complies with these Phase II and Phase III drought conditions. Any and all efforts to assist in conserving water during this time is appreciated.
