Alumnus Bruce Main '85 to Appear on 20/20 and
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
November 5, 2007

In January, APU alumnus Bruce Main '85 was featured on ABC's 20/20 as part of Diane Sawyer's special on the youth of Camden, New Jersey and Main's organization, UrbanPromise Ministries. The special allowed viewers to catch a glimpse of the life of a young person growing up in Camden and hear stories from UrbanPromise youth.

On Friday, November 9, Diane Sawyer will follow up on the original interview with Main on 20/20 at 10 p.m. And on Sunday, November 11, Main will also appear on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which airs at 8 p.m. Main purchased and donated the piece of property where Extreme Makeover will build a house for a deserving family.

While attending APU, Main was challenged to consider the social implications of putting practice into what he was learning. Upon hearing chapel speaker Tony Campolo, he was inspired to make a difference. Main answered God's calling and worked in Camden for a summer where he fell in love with what he called "these beautiful kids." He became the executive director of UrbanPromise Ministries in Camden in 1988. UrbanPromise is a ministry dedicated to equipping the youth of Camden with the necessary skills for academic achievement, life management, spiritual growth, and Christian leadership.
