Spring Barnes & Noble Book Signing March 24, 2008 Following the success of APU’s first faculty book signing last fall, the university presents four new faculty authors who will share and discuss their books at the Glendora Barnes & Noble on Thursday, April 10, from 7-9 p.m. The event includes a reception, during which each author will present their book, followed by a meet and greet and time for signing.

Meet the Authors:
- Dennis Okholm, Ph.D., professor of theology and philosophy, will be presenting his book, Monk Habits for Everyday People: Benedictine Spirituality for Protestants. In this book, Okholm uses his own experience with the Benedictine Monks to help present the history, customs, and values of these people. These values include, listening, humility, balance, obedience, hospitality, and stability. Okholm takes these Benedictine concepts and practices and brings them to Christians today in order that they may enjoy a deeper and slower natured spiritual life.
- Maria Pacino, Ed.D., professor of education, chair of advanced studies in education, and program director for school librarianship and library media credential, will be signing her new book Reflection of Equity, Diversity, and Schooling. Her book is both a personal narrative and theoretical perspectives that will give educators a closer look into equity, diversity, and schooling. This book address current issues that schools are facing today, such as, prejudice, racism, classes, sexism.
- Jennifer E. Walsh, Ph.D., is an associate professor of political science. Walsh’s book, Three Strike Laws, provides a clear comprehensive overview of the controversial Three Strike Laws movement. She goes into depth on the historical movement, the various status that it has been adopted into across the nation, and the rational and consequences of having such a law.
- Jim Willis, Ph.D., professor and chair of communications department, has authored or co-authored ten books on journalism and the news media and one book on the history of the University of Oklahoma football program. His latest book, which he will be signing at this event, is called The Media Effect: How News Influences Politics and Government. In this book he asks questions such as, how truthful is the news media’s version of reality? To what extent is government policy decided on the basis of this mediated reality and public reaction to it? Willis asks these questions as well as explores the role of the traditional and non-traditional news media’s influence on decision making at the highest levels of American government.
