Richard Durfield, Ph.D., is the director of assessment in the School of Adult and Professional Studies (APS), responsible for the training and supervision of the associate director and assessment counselors in the assessment department. Durfield also directs the process of evaluating and awarding credit for experiential learning, guiding these prior learning assessment (PLA) activities through implementation of policies and procedures for standardized assessment of accelerated undergraduate students’ prior learning in accordance with the standards of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the American Council on Education, the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning, and APU. Durfield makes official recommendations concerning APU’s PLA program, and has participated in curriculum design that incorporates various learning theories pertaining to adult learners.
