Richard Durfield, Ph.D., serves as the director of assessment in the School of Adult and Professional Studies (APS). He oversees training and supervision of the associate director and assessment counselors in the assessment department. Durfield also directs the process of evaluating and awarding of credit for experiential learning. He directs Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) activities through implementation of policies and procedures for standardized assessment of accelerated undergraduate students' prior learning in accordance with WASC, A.C.E., CAEL, and APU standards. Durfield makes official recommendations concerning APU'S PLA program, and has participated in curriculum design that incorporates various learning theories pertaining to adult learners.
