Four new voices came to the forefront of the university's academic contributions at the second Barnes & Noble faculty author book signing. Though the books' topics ranged from the effects of media to disciplines of Benedictine monks, Carole Lambert, Ph.D., director of research, captured the common thread, "These works reveal a shared desire among the authors to improve the world."
From 7— 9 p.m. on April 11, area residents, family, friends, and APU community members gathered at the Glendora store to celebrate the authors' contributions. The evening event allowed guests to hear from and meet each of the authors, including: Dennis Okholm, Ph.D., author of Monk Habits for Everday People: Benedictine Spirituality for Protestants; Maria Pacino, Ed.D., author of Reflection of Equity, Diversity, and Schooling; Jennifer Walsh, Ph.D., author of Three Strike Laws; and Jim Willis, Ph.D., author of The Media Effect: How News Influences Politics and Government.
Attendees listened as the authors read excerpts from their work or talked about the focus of the book. Following the formal program, attendees had the remainder of the evening to have their books autographed and talk one-on-one with the authors.
Michael Whyte, Ph.D., provost, commented on the impact of the authors and their books. "Our faculty don't simply contribute to academic journals, they write books that change people’s lives," said Whyte.
The authors enjoyed the presentation and venue. "The university is gaining a wider audience for the kinds of work that often get lost in the academic world," said faculty author Dennis Okholm.
