AZUSA, Calif. -- The Acrobatics & Tumbling team is already making news before the season even begins.
Head Coach Colleen Kausrud welcomed the opportunity to introduce the nation to her team through an interview with Fox News. The story will air next week (date and time TBD) and will address the recent news surrounding the NCATA and USA Cheer’s model of stunt.
“I looked at their model,” Said Kausrud. “It’s similar to our [meet format], however it’s simply geared towards cheerleading teams. Our goal is to clearly distinguish ourselves as acro and tumbling.“
The story will also cover the emergence of acro and tumbling from competitive cheerleading and gymnastics, as well as the pursuit of NCAA emerging sport status.
“They watched some of our athletes practicing, and got a chance to talk to a couple of the team members. You never know exactly what the final product will be, but I am proud that APU was selected to represent the NCATA in the story.”
NCATA is the governing body of acro and tumbling, and has secured the meet sanctioning of USA Gymnastics, giving additional credibility to their organization.
The season will officially begin in mid-October, and the first meet of the season will be January 29th at the University of Oregon.
