Azusa Pacific is 1 of 14 schools to have both its men’s and women’s basketball teams qualify for their respective NAIA Championship Tournaments which begin next Wednesday (March 18).
Earlier today, the NAIA national office released the final coaches’ polls and the 32-team fields for both tournaments. Azusa Pacific and Biola University are the only GSAC schools to qualify both their men’s and women’s teams. For the Cougars, it’s the sixth straight year that both the men and women are headed to their national championship tournaments.
The Cougar men, who last night defeated Fresno Pacific University, 81-63, to capture the GSAC Postseason Tournament championship, are ranked No. 16 in the final NAIA Coaches’ Poll of the season. Azusa Pacific is making its 14th straight NAIA Tournament appearance, the second-longest active streak in the NAIA.
The Cougar women are ranked No. 18 in their final coaches’ poll.
First-round pairings and the entire brackets for the men’s and women’s tournaments will be released by the NAIA national office at approximately 11 a.m. (PDT) Thursday (March 12).
