KABC-TV7 reported on Azusa Pacific football being forced to move its Wednesday practice 10 miles to the east at the University of La Verne in order to avoid smoke from the nearby Morris Fire in the mountains behind the campus.

The report aired Wednesday (Aug. 26) during the 5 p.m. broadcast.

"We're grateful to La Verne opening its facility for us today," said Cougar head coach Victor Santa Cruz, as his team prepared for Saturday's season-opener at Carroll College in Helena, Mont.  "This gives us another site to play on as we prepare for a road contest."

This is not the first time that Azusa Pacific has had to move practice sites because of nearby brush fires.  Fires in the San Dimas Canyon and Marshall Canyon of La Verne forced Azusa Pacific to move practices over the past 7 years.
