AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific Director of Athletics Bill Odell suffered what doctors termed a “major” heart attack on Tuesday, April 6, while at a local gym.  Odell, 67, was immediately treated by paramedics already on scene and then rushed to Pomona (Calif.) Valley Hospital.

A stint was placed in an artery that had been completely blocked.  Odell has been released from the hospital and today is resting comfortably at home.  Odell is expected to make a full recovery but will not to return to work at Azusa Pacific for at least 2 weeks.

Odell, who was inducted into the Azusa Pacific Sports Hall of Fame last fall, has served as the university’s director of athletics since 1996.  He has guided the Cougar athletics program to the past 5 consecutive Director’s Cups, an annual award given to the NAIA’s top intercollegiate athletics program.
