AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific basketball is opening the new campaign like never before.

The Cougar men’s and women’s teams are ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in their respective NAIA Coaches Top 25 Polls released today by the national office.

For the third time in program history and the first since the start of the 2005-06 season, the Cougar men are the NAIA’s top-ranked team.  Azusa Pacific returns 4 starters from last year’s 28-10 team that finished as the national runner-up.

The Cougar women, who were 29-7 last year, are ranked No. 2 in the NAIA Division I Women’s Preseason Poll, the highest ranking ever in program history.  They return all 5 starters from last year’s team that advanced to the NAIA championship game for the first time in program history.

Both teams also have been picked to win their respective Golden State Athletic Conference titles this year.
