Derek Wohlers

Derek Wohlers is in his second season as an assistant on the Azusa Pacific coaching staff, taking over as pitching coach after working primarily with the Cougar outfielders in 2007. In addition, Wohlers oversees and implements the Cougars’ in-season and off-season strength and conditioning program.
Wohlers played 2 seasons for Azusa Pacific, posting the best ERA of any Cougar pitcher who threw at least 50 innings as a 2004 senior, going 5-2 with a 4.64 ERA in 17 appearances. In his 2-year Cougar career, he went 7-4 with 69 strikeouts in 96.1 innings and batted .255 with 1 home run at the plate.
Prior to attending Azusa Pacific, Wohlers played 2 seasons at Spokane Falls Community College in Washington, where he was a 2-year starter at pitcher and first base. He finished with a .323 junior college career batting average and went 10-5 with a 3.35 ERA at Spokane Falls. He was a 2000 graduate of Central Valley High in Spokane, Wash.
Wohlers graduated from Azusa Pacific in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He is a certified personal trainer and strength & conditioning specialist, and he owns and operates a business called Life Performance Enhancement. He is single and resides in Upland.
