AZUSA, Calif. -- The Azusa Pacific baseball program has renewed an agreement to play a 7-inning exhibition game with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, the Advanced A California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The game will be played Tuesday, April 1, at 6:05 p.m. at The Epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga.

“We’re grateful to the Quakes and Angels for allowing us this opportunity to showcase our program against a first-class organization in a first-class facility,” said Cougar head coach Paul Svagdis. “We’re excited to provide our players the opportunity to compete in that atmosphere, and we hope to give the Quakes a competitive game as they make preparations for their upcoming season. We also appreciate the opportunity to represent Azusa Pacific University within the local community.”

Tickets to the event will cost $5 each, and they can be purchased on the Azusa Pacific campus at the Felix Event Center ticket office, at the Alumni House or from the Cougar baseball office. Associate head coach Robert Ruiz will handle sales from the baseball office, and ticket proceeds sold at Azusa Pacific locations benefit the Cougar baseball program, which enjoyed a record-setting 51-10 campaign in 2007 that included Azusa Pacific’s first trip to the NAIA World Series since 1984.

Co-GSAC Players of the Year Scott Hodsdon and Stephen Vogt played in the Cougars’ 5-4 exhibition win last year over the Quakes, and both were selected following their senior campaigns in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft last June. Hodsdon was a sixth-round selection of the Oakland Athletics, and Vogt was picked in the 12th round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, making them the highest-drafted pair of Cougars selected in the same season since 1983.

This will be the third exhibition meeting between the teams. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Azusa Pacific, 3-2, in 2005, before the Cougars pulled off last year’s come-from-behind 5-4 win.

The Epicenter is located at 8408 Rochester Ave., Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730. Click here for directions to the stadium. Gates will open for the exhibition at 5:05 p.m., 1 hour prior to first pitch.
