RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. -- Fresh off the best start of his third professional baseball season, former Azusa Pacific baseball star and Rancho Cucamonga native Scott Hodsdon is scheduled to get the start for the Stockton Ports against his hometown Quakes in Saturday’s California League contest at The Epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga.
Hodsdon has appeared in 26 games this season, starting 20 times for Stockton, the Class A Advanced California League affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. He started against Rancho Cucamonga, the California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, on May 8 in Stockton, but Saturday will be his first start against the Quakes in his hometown.

The A’s sixth-round pick in the 2007 draft, Hodsdon will be 5 days removed from one of his best outings as a professional pitcher, a 7.1-inning, 1-run, 4-hit and season-high 10-strikeout effort Monday, Aug. 24, in a Stockton victory over Bakersfield. For the season, Hodsdon is 6-9 with a 5.25 ERA, posting a 97:36 K:BB ratio in 121.2 innings.
As a 2007 senior at Azusa Pacific, Hodsdon was the winning pitcher in a 5-4 exhibition victory over the Quakes at The Epicenter, striking out 4 batters in 2 perfect innings of relief as the Cougars rallied from a 4-0 deficit in its final at-bat of the 7-inning exhibition contest. An accomplished collegiate hitter, Hodsdon was also Azusa Pacific’s pitching ace, posting 34 consecutive scoreless innings late in the regular season to help lead the Cougars to the program’s ninth Golden State Athletic Conference championship along with its first NAIA World Series berth in 23 years.
