AZUSA, Calif. -- Coming off the best outing of his brief 2-year Azusa Pacific career, senior RHP Andy Alstot was named GSAC and NAIA Region II Pitcher of the Week.
In his lone appearance last week, Alstot was masterful in leading the Cougars to a 1-0 win over the NAIA's No. 8-ranked Point Loma Nazarene. The win completed the Cougars’ 3-game sweep of the Crusaders.
Alstot tossed the Cougars' first complete-game, shutout of the season, and he was nearly untouchable in the process. He allowed just 4 base runners (2 hits, 1 walk, 1 error) and none past second base, while striking out 6. Alstot had a perfect game through 4.1 innings and a no hitter through 5.2 innings as the Cougars knocked the Crusaders from the GSAC's top spot.
With the win, Alstot moved to 2-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to 5.40. He became the second Cougar this season to earn GSAC Player or Pitcher of the Week honors. Junior 3B Ryan Marcos was named GSAC Player of the Week 2 weeks ago.
