AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific is a young ballclub with just 3 seniors on the roster. Not only is it primed for a run at the postseason this week but with a developing roster – and a pair of new signings – the future of Cougar baseball under head coach Paul Svagdis is bright.

Azusa Pacific has signed 2 prep stars, Justin Argomaniz and Chris Feicht, for play beginning next season, Svagdis announced this week.

Argomaniz, a second baseman, comes to Azusa Pacific after enjoying a standout prep career at La Habra High. An All-Freeway League first team member in 2003 and 2005, Argomaniz hit .408 with 3 homers and 20 RBIs as a junior. He was named All-Area first team for his efforts.

Also signing to play for the Cougars is prep standout Chris Feicht out of Woodbridge High. A .393 hitter as a junior, Feicht had 12 extra base hits, including 4 homers, and slugged .618 for the season. He was put on the All-Sea View League first team in 2005 and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player.

As a senior, Feicht’s primary duties have included pitching and playing first base. He has also caught during his prep career. Additionally, he was a 3 year letterman in basketball.

“We are very excited about these players deciding to make APU their top choice,” said Svagdis. “They both have strong potential for success both on the baseball diamond and in the classroom. They come highly recommended as solid baseball players but also as young men that can add future leadership both on and off the field at Azusa Pacific.”

Argomaniz and Feicht join a class that already includes Javier Ochoa and Virgil Chavira.

The Cougars continue their regular season in earnest this week as they travel to Concordia for a key GSAC match-up on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
