THIS YEAR: A veteran Cougar, junior David Stafford is a savvy and versatile player who can play a variety of position and defend nearly anywhere on the court ... Now in his fourth year in the program, the game is slowing down for him and he is coming into his own as a key contributor ... Can knock down the outside jumper but can mix it up in the key as well ... Is a consistent and dependable player ... Also deceptively quick ... Has already played in 68 games in his Cougar career.

2009 (sophomore): Appeared in 33 of the Cougars' 34 games, starting 1, as a 2009 redshirt sophomore ... Averaged nearly 11 minutes of play each game ... Averaged 3.4 points and 1.2 rebounds ... On the strength of 4-for-5 shooting at the 3-point arc, dropped in a season-high 14 points in a victory over Trevecca Nazarene ... Also had 10 points in a win at home over Montana Western ... In his lone start of the season, scored 8 points in 22 minutes of play in a win over San Diego Christian ... Tallied a combined 15 points in back-to-back victories over Westmont, including a GSAC Tournament first-round game.

2008 (freshman): Put together a fine 2008 redshirt freshman season in which he appeared in all 35 games, starting 9 at mid-season ... Averaged 4.7 points and 1.5 rebounds ... Was third on the team with 37 3-pointers made, 14 of which came in his 9 starts ...Best game came in a runaway victory over Hope International in which he had 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting which included a career-high 5 3-pointers ... Put together back-to-back 12-point efforts off the bench in games vs. Rocky Mountain and Bethany

2007 (redshirt): Redshirted his first year at Azusa Pacific, attending classes and working out with the Cougars.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 3 seasons of varsity basketball for head coach Jeff Loving at Las Lomas High in Walnut Creek, Calif. ... Was a 3-time All-Diablo Foothill Athletic League selection, including first-team honors twice ... As a 2006 senior averaged a team-high 20 points and led the Knights to a 21-5 record ... As a 2005 junior, averaged 20 points for the 17-12 Knights ... Averaged 25 points in 3 CIF playoff games ... Named All-Contra Costa Times for his play.

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 26, 1987, in San Diego, Calif., to Pete (salesman) and Sally (track & field coach) Stafford ... Has 2 younger brothers (Brian, Kevin) ... Comes from an athletic family ... His grandfather played basketball at Cal-Berkeley while his dad (football) and mom (track & field) both lettered in sports at Cal as well ... Was a scholar-athlete in high school, graduating with a 3.9 GPA ... Majoring in business.
