THIS YEAR: Sophomore guard LyDell Cardwell is poised for a breakout season as a dynamic scoring guard for the Cougars ... Has developed a sense of patience and understanding for the spots he can capitalize offensively while gaining a better understanding for his role defensively ... Handles the ball well and is a gifted shooter ... Has a craftiness with his game that makes him fun to watch with the ball in his hands.

2012-13 (freshman): Appeared in 13 games as a redshirt freshman, scoring 17 points on seven-of-21 shooting from the field ... Scored a season-high seven points with an assist against Fresno Pacific, hitting all three of his two-point attempts that game.

2011-12 (redshirt): Practiced with the team and attended classes while redshirting his freshman season.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach Curtis Haggins at Mid-Peninsula High School in Menlo Park, Calif., where he was a three-sport athlete who also played baseball and soccer ... Named Private Schools Athletic League MVP his senior year, averaging 24.7 points in the regular season before leading Mid-Peninsula to the CIF Central Coast Section Finals for the first time in school history ... Scored 34 points in the CCS semifinals and poured in 35 points in a 71-66 defeat to Pinewood (Los Altos Hills) in the CCS Division V title game ... Averaged 30 points as a junior and scored 16 per game as a sophomore, posting a three-year scoring average of 23 points ... Scored a career-high 50 points against East Palo Alto Academy during his junior year.
