Johnson is 1 of 3 players from the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) to be among the 30 players earning All-America recognition. GSAC Player of the Year James Lewis of Fresno Pacific University earned first-team recognition while his teammate Todd Brown joins Johnson on the third team.
A first-year player out Southwest Tennessee Community College, Johnson led Azusa Pacific in scoring this season and was third in the GSAC, averaging 17.2 points a game. He tallied 11 20-point games, including a career-high 34 points vs. Fresno Pacific, the most scored by a Cougar in 7 years.
Johnson topped the team (fourth in the GSAC) with 70 3-point field goals and was second with 43 steals. His most complete effort of the season may have come in the Cougars’ victory over University of Montana-Western when he registered 26 points to go along with 4 steals and 3 assists.
Johnson led the Cougars to a 24-10 record and their 14th consecutive NAIA Tournament berth.
With the honor, Johnson becomes the 13th Cougar ever (11th in the past 17 years) to be named to one of the NAIA’s 3 All-America teams.
