AZUSA, Calif. -- On Thursday, November 1, the Azusa Pacific men’s and women’s basketball teams will be introduced at the annual Midnight Madness event in the Felix Event Center to begin the 2012-13 season.

The event begins at 9 p.m. with food and drinks at Kresge Plaza. Then at 10 p.m., the Felix Event Center doors will open for one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, an action-packed evening featuring both the men’s and women’s basketball teams along with an appearance from the Acrobatics & Tumbling team.

The night will culminate with the annual dunk contest, which has been won in the past by former Cougars such as Chidi Ajufo, Caleb Gervin, and current Harlem Globetrotter Kevin Daley. Last year's champion, Brandon Dunson, was a graduating senior, meaning he will not be back to defend his title which opens the door for a new champion.

In the three-point contest, the women’s team has put together an impressive winning streak over the men. Last year, Briana Hall kept the winning streak alive for the women, knocking down nine treys in the final round to defeat B.J. Porter. Amanda Sims is among this year's favorites after she led the women’s team in three-pointers made in the 2011-12 season, hitting 54-of-147 attempts.

The event also features fan participation during the event. Last year, fans had the opportunity to win a car, and there will be many other prizes this year. Entrance to the event is free.
