Blog #3; “Payback’s a … Beautiful Thing!”
Kasey Myers
Well, the third time was the charm, and we live to see another day here in Kansas City. It felt like we won the national championship, barely beating John Brown in the first round. I felt kind of pathetic when I hopped into Demario’s arms after winning our first-round game, but I guess that is what this match-up of John Brown has done to me. It’s not like the players or the coaches for John Brown are that mean or disrespectful (though their crowd may be), it’s just that this bitter taste of defeat has been in my mouth for so long now and tonight it dissolved. I can’t describe how good this win felt. I’d like to dedicate the win over John Brown to all those friends and fellow teammates who have shared in the pain caused by John Brown throughout the years (B-Mich, Staniland, Gerv, Pratt, English, Dillons, and more).
I love making it past the first round. All day we watched teams lose and seasons end, yet ours is still alive and well. A game like tonight, though we played poorly, can bring us together and give us the boost we need to get on a roll. I’m sure our fans would love for us to play like we know how. It is such a blessing to have family and friends share in such an experience, whether they’re watching in Municipal Arena or awaiting updates on the internet. I love y’all.
I am looking forward to having the day off, watching some hoops on TV, and speaking at the annual “Champions of Character” youth clinic. It makes you feel like a big shot when the kids ask for your autograph, even though you know it’s worth nothing. I can’t wait to hear the wisdom that teammates such as Mike Hornbuckle and Scott Zea have to share to the youth in Kansas City.
