“The Chance of a Lifetime”
Kasey Myers
Well…We’re coming home and it’s a Monday. You know what that means -- we didn’t make it to the Final Four. Though it was a heartbreaker, the loss to Robert Morris isn’t the hardest part. All the wins and the losses will soon be forgotten. The hardest part came when I walked out of the locker room, knowing that I would never again put on the jersey that read Cougars No. 10, only to open the door and face people such as Gayle Odell, the Leslie girls, and Aaron Bartholomew- the people that have seen almost every game of mine, that have been on all the trips, that have given me their money in the hotel poker games, and experienced the layovers of the plane flights. This is what I was going to miss the most.
The heart and soul of the Cougar basketball team is far beneath the players and the coaches that play the games. It is found in our supporters, our fans, our parents, the kids, the wives, the girlfriends and the friends that all choose to experience the rush of basketball, the last minutes of the games, the pain in the losses, and the joy in the victories.
This great sport of basketball has been a part of my life ever since I could remember, and within the last four years I have learned enough to write a book, and I’m sure the ten of you who read these blog’s of mine would be there to buy the first copies. I would even sign the inside cover for y’all.
Four years ago I decided to try out for the APU basketball team as a walk-on and see what would happen. Who would have thought that four years later I would walk away with the memories, the success, the lessons, and the friendships I have now?
All thanks and praise be to God for this chance of a lifetime.
