AZUSA, Calif. -- The 2011 NAIA Women’s Basketball National Champion Azusa Pacific was honored at city and university functions earlier this week, and the Cougars will continue to celebrate the program’s first-ever national title at a pair of upcoming minor-league baseball games featuring affiliates of Los Angeles’ MLB organizations.

The Cougars will be honored on the field and have the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at an Inland Empire 66ers game on Sunday, April 10, and again at a Rancho Cucamonga Quakes game on Friday, April 15. Inland Empire is a Class A Advanced California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, while Rancho Cucamonga is in the same league as a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate.

Earlier this week, the team was officially recognized for their national title at the Monday, April 4, Azusa City Council meeting. On Tuesday, April 5, the team’s championship was celebrated at the university’s faculty/staff community meeting, where Athletic Director Bill Odell, assistant coach Tim Beauregard, senior Kristie Hala’ufia, and freshman Hannah Kenny each spoke to the university community about the national title run (video below).
