SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-- The Azusa Pacific women’s basketball team won its second exhibition of the 2013-14 preseason, defeating Westmont 77-62 on Wednesday night. The Cougars, who defeated Biola 90-70 last Tuesday night, outscored the Warriors 44-28 in the second half en route to their second consecutive double-digit preseason victory.

Junior Sendy Valles led Azusa Pacific in scoring for the second consecutive game, tallying a game-high 20 points after shooting 8-for-13 from the floor. The Long Beach State transfer also pulled in eight rebounds to help the Cougars turn a 34-33 halftime deficit into a 77-62 rout of the defending NAIA national champions.

Azusa Pacific shot 48.3 percent from the floor, and held off a hot-shooting Warrior team that nailed 50 percent of its 3-pointers (7-14).

Sophomore forward Lauren Gilster added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the night’s lone double-double, while PacWest Preseason Player of the Year Kelly Hardeman finished with 17 points, four steals, and t rebounds.

Junior point guard Sullivan Ziegler was Azusa Pacific’s fourth double-digit scorer, registering 10 points to go with four steals and two assists. Senior center Annie Fredrickson had an efficient night, going 3-of-4 from the field to score seven points.

Azusa Pacific will open the regular season on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Cal Poly Pomona at 3 p.m.
