Recruiting

Joining the Stunts & Tumbling Team | Joining the Spirit Squad

It’s never too early to begin your college search, and to find out about being part of one of our squads!

“Joining cheer at APU gave me the opportunity to meet an amazing group of girls who soon became my family away from home.”
Avery Bell ’07

Joining the Stunts & Tumbling Team

If you are interested in being an APU cheerleader, please start by completing our recruitment form so that we can get to know you a little bit.

College Prep Days

We host two College Prep Days (CPD) each year for high school students who are considering college cheer. This is a day to have fun, ask questions, get to know the current team, meet those you may be cheering with in the future, and allow the coaches to get to know you!

Our next CPD is scheduled for March 13, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You must register online, and complete and bring with you the College Prep Day Release Form* to participate. Parents are welcome to attend, and we will follow our time with an optional lunch, campus tours, and a chance for you to sit down and talk with the coaches one-on-one.

Read more about activities, times, locations, etc. for CPD!

If you cannot join us for a College Prep Day, then the next best way to get to know Azusa Pacific’s Stunts & Tumbling Team is to attend a practice or see us in action at a competition. Check out our Stunts & Tumbling Team's schedule, or to watch a practice, please contact Coach Colleen Kausrud at ckausrud@apu.edu for more information.

Tryouts

Spring tryouts will take place April 17 and 18, 2010! If you plan to attend, please email John Blake, recruiting coach, at coachjohn@apucheer.com.

Please bring the following with you to tryouts:

Scholarships

If you are interested in a cheerleading scholarship, we encourage you to submit a video during the fall semester, well in advance of spring tryouts, for best consideration. You may mail in your video or upload it to a website (e.g., YouTube) and email us the link.

When submitting a video, please include:

  • All stunting abilities
  • All tumbling skills (standing and running)
  • Two jumps (one must be a toe-touch, and jumps to standing tumbling are encouraged)
  • One sideline cheer, incorporating a variety of cheer motions

Be sure to also mail or email us your two recommendation letters and photo.
