THIS YEAR: A talented newcomer with a promising future, freshman Chris Brown comes out of regional power Modesto (Calif.) Christian High where he developed an outstanding knowledge of the game and good fundamentals ... May need a year to develop physically and adjust to the speed of the college game.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 2 seasons of varsity football for head coach Mike Parsons at Modesto Christian, playing both fullback and linebacker ... Was a member of 2 conference championship teams and 2 Crusader squads that finished as the CIF San Joaquin Section runner-up in 2005 and 2006 ... As a 2006 senior, rushed for 464 yards and 7 TDs and collected 74 tackles before suffering a season-ending injury in week 8 ... Tallied 91 tackles as a 2005 junior ... Also lettered in track & field (400 and 800 meters).

PERSONAL: March 24, 1989, in Modesto, Calif., to Jeff (nurse) and Kim (nurse) Brown ... Has a younger brother (Aaron) and younger sister (Natalie) ... Majoring in biochemistry and would like to be a surgeon some day.
