THIS YEAR: An outstanding athlete, transfer Chris Brown returns to football after a 3-year layoff with the expectation to re-charge the Cougar ground game ... Strong, quick and difficult to bring down ... Once he works off the rust, could prove to be the Cougars’ leading runner ... Will team with Alex Peltier to offer a strong rushing attack.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played 2 seasons of football at Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif., where he was a 2-time All-Coast Conference selection ... As a 2004 sophomore rushed for 665 yards and 8 TDs on 104 carries (6.4 avg.) in 8 games (83.1 avg.), missing 2 games with an injury ... As a 2003 freshman, rushed for 731 yards and 5 TDs on 133 carries (5.5 avg.) in 10 games (73.1 avg.) ... Was also an outstanding track & field athlete for the Padres, winning the 2006 California state title in the decathlon with a score of 6,571 points ... Had other personal bests of 11.01 (100 meters), 14.63 (110-meter hurdles) and 22’ 7 1/4” (long jump).

HIGH SCHOOL: Split his prep career between Carmel (Calif.) High and Seaside (Calif.) High ... Spent his 2002 senior season at Carmel where he was switched to halfback and proceeded to rush for 1,502 yards and 22 TDs on 212 carries ... Named team MVP and all-county ... Was offensive MVP in the country all-star game ... Spent 3 prior seasons at Seaside where he played nose guard, defensive end and fullback.

PERSONAL: Born March 25, 1985, in Monterey, Calif. ... Parents are Richard and Barbara Brown ... Has a brother (Richard) and a sister (Felicia, a member of the Fresno State University Hall of Fame for track & field) ... Majoring in exercise & sport science ...
