THIS YEAR: One of the most experienced Cougars on the defensive side of the ball, senior Brain Casey is a 3-year letterman who has played 24 games in the Azusa Pacific system, including the past 21 in a row (starting 19) ... Expected to be a leader on what should be a strong defense ... Rated strong against the run and reads very well ... Is quite durable and dependable.
2007: Appeared in all 11 games as a 2007 junior, starting 9 ... Was ninth on the team with 39 tackles which included 4 tackles for loss and a hand in 3 quarterback sacks ... Best game came in a 38-34 victory over Whitworth when he registered a career-high 10 tackles to go along with half a sack and a forced fumble ... In the season-opener vs. MidAmerica Nazarene at the First Down Classic, prevented a touchdown with an interception at the 1-yard line ... Had 7 tackles in the win at Dixie State.
2006: Appeared in all 10 games as a 2006 sophomore, starting the final 8 of the campaign ... Was seventh on the team with 44 tackles (14 solo), including 6 for loss ... Tallied a season-high 9 tackles vs. Wisconsin-LaCrosse ... Had 7 tackles and 1.5 sacks in the victory over Dixie State ... Collected his first collegiate interception vs. Humboldt State and returned it 39 yards.
2005: Appeared in 3 games as a 2005 redshirt freshman, primarily on special teams ... Registered a pair of tackles, including 1 in the season opener vs. San Diego ... Made a move from the Cougar secondary to linebacker.
2004: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-sport standout at Fresno Christian High, earning All-Central Sierra League recognition in football (cornerback and running back), soccer (goalie) and baseball (third baseman) during his senior year ... On the gridiron, led the Eagles to an 11-1 record during his 2002 senior season ... His best game came against rival Immanuel High when he rushed for over 100 yards and had an interception ... In baseball, was a member of back-to-back league championship teams.
PERSONAL: Son of Keith Casey and Deborah Wise ... His father played baseball at Iowa ... Has 3 sisters (Barbara, Jill, Stephanie) ... Attended Fresno Pacific for 1 year, playing on the Sunbirds’ club baseball team in 2004.
