THIS YEAR: One of 14 redshirt freshmen in the program, Michael Moreno is battling for key role among the Cougar linebackers.
2007: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific while working off the rust of a 2-year layoff from the game.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 2-sport standout at Northern California power Valley Christian High in San Jose, Calif. ... Earned 2 varsity letters in football playing for head coach Mike Machado ... Was a member of 2 CIF championship team that combined for a 27-3 record over the course of the 2003 and 2004 seasons ... As a senior was named All-San Jose Mercury News and All-West Catholic Athletic League first team ... In 11 games played tallied 110 tackles, 3 fumble recoveries and a pair of interceptions ... As a result was named All-CIF second team and was chosen for the Silicon Valley All-Star Game ... Also lettered 2 years in baseball (middle infielder).
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played baseball at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif., during the 2006 season ... Batted .375 in 25 games for the Vikings.
