THIS YEAR: Senior Mike Perez is a hard-hitting defensive back with the most experience of any player in the Cougar system … Moves to the “mike” position which will allow him to use his size … Smart about the game … May also see time on special teams.
2006: Started all 10 games in the Cougar secondary during his 2006 junior season ... Recorded 34 tackles, including a career-high 13 (2 solo) vs. Wisconsin-LaCrosse ... Also had a pick against UWL ... Led the team with 5 pass deflections, including 2 vs. Southern Oregon.
2005: Appeared in 9 of the Cougars’ 10 games, starting the final 2 of the season, including the NAIA playoff contest vs. Montana Tech … Tallied a season-best 3 tackles in 3 different games … Forced a fumble against Eastern Oregon that led to an eventual Cougar TD.
2004: Appeared in 9 of the Cougars’ 14 games as a 2004 junior … Had 17 tackles (9 solo), 4 pass deflections and 2 interceptions … Came up with a huge interception in the Cougars’ first-ever victory at Southern Oregon, picking off a Raider pass in the Cougar end zone to thwart SOU’s best scoring opportunity … Other pick came against Valley City State ... Had a career-high 4 tackles vs. Crown.
CAL POLY SLO: Spent 2 seasons at NCAA Division I-AA Cal Poly San Luis Obispo … Redshirted the 2002 season and did not get into any games in 2003:
HIGH SCHOOL: Rushed for school-record 2,584 yards, including 1,054 as a senior, at Burroughs High in Burbank, playing for head coach Keith Knoop ... Tallied 3,461 all-purpose yards and 214 points in his career ... Set school record with 299 rushing yards in a game as a junior vs. Glendale HS ... Longest run from scrimmage was 98 yards vs. Saugus HS... School retired his No. 11 jersey ... Twice earned All-Foothill League and All-Los Angeles Daily News first-team honors ... Was team MVP as a senior … Also eared 3 varsity letters in soccer.
