THIS YEAR: A hard-working player, redshirt freshman Phillip Sacco is looking to crack the Cougar 2-deep and perhaps see some time on special teams ... Noted for his positive demeanor.
2007: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific, attending classes while working out with the team.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 2-way standout for former Cougar great Doug Barnett at Bakersfield (Calif.) Christian High ... Played both wide receiver and defensive back ... As a 2006 senior, had 15 tackles, 5 receptions for 106 yards with 1 TD and rushed the ball once for 18 yards for the 4-6 Eagles ... As a 2005 junior, tallied 18 tackles (15 solo), which included 3 quarterback sacks for the 3-7 Eagles ... Named most inspirational player both seasons ... Also lettered 2 years in wrestling and 2 in track & field (sprints) ... Served as ASB president.
PERSONAL: Born June 2, 1988, in Bakersfield, Calif. ... Parents are Philip (business owner) and Marla Sacco ... Enjoys surging, hunting and fishing ... Has traveled to Europe, Africa, Brazil, Australia, Mexico and Argentina.
