THIS YEAR: Redshirt freshman Sam Sussman is looking to crack the Cougar 2-deep at tight end ... Adjusting to a new position but is rated a good athlete who can make the transition.

2007: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific while attending classes and working out with the team.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-sport standout at The King’s Academy in Sunnyvale, Calif., which began sponsoring varsity football in 2002 ... Played 3 years of varsity football for head coach Ron Kellner as a running back, wide receiver and quarterback ... As a 2006 senior, named All-Bay Football League first team after leading the Knights’ double-wing offense to an 8-2 record and a CIF playoff berth ... As a 2004 sophomore, served as the starting quarterback for a 5-3-1 team ... Also earned 3 varsity letters each in basketball and volleyball.

PERSONAL: Born Feb. 14, 1988, in San Jose, Calif. Parents are Brian and Sue Sussman ... Has 2 brothers (Ben, Josh) and a sister (Elisa) ... His father is a drive-time radio talk-show host on KSFO 560AM in San Francisco.
