AZUSA, Calif. – Junior RB Chris Brown heads a quartet of 4 Cougars who have been named to the 2008 NAIA All-Independent team.

Brown, who rushed for a team highs of 793 yards and 5 TDs, is joined on the all-independent squad by fellow Cougars from the offensive side of the ball WR Jon Davis, and OT Ben Winslow along with LB Brian Casey, the lone Cougar defender to be named to the team.

Brown, who was also the Azusa Pacific’s offensive MVP, registered 4 100-yard rushing games during the 2008 campaign, his first season back in the game after a 3-year layoff. His best outing came against Dixie State College when he tallied 148 yards on 20 carries.

Davis, the Cougars’ overall MVP, led the team in receptions for a second straight year with 49 grabs for 605 yards (12.3 avg.) and 5 TDs.

A 4 year letterman, Winslow was a 3-year starter along a Cougar front that yielded just 21quarterback sacks in the past 21 games.

Casey is a 3-year starter and anchored the Cougar defense this past season with his 55 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 1 interception (a TD-saving pick in the end zone).

The 28 players of the 2008 NAIA All-Independent team is a compilation of the best players from the 8 NAIA member institutions not affiliated with a conference. Other independent schools represented on the team are Southern Virginia University, which featured NAIA Independent Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Luke Taylor, Edward Waters College, home of NAIA Independent Defensive Player of the Year lineman Anens Stevens, Southern Oregon University, Peru State College, Webber International University, Haskell Indiana Nations University, and Waldorf College.
