AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific wide receiver Jon Davis has been invited to the Buffalo Bills’ rookie camp this weekend as an unsigned free agent.

Davis, who just completed a 4-year career at Azusa Pacific and is the program’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 30, will join the Bills’ recent draftees plus several signed and unsigned free agents in 3-day workouts at the team’s training facility Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He will have the opportunity to showcase his skills with the hope of earning a contract and continuing with the Bills through the summer workouts.

“It was a nerve-wracking weekend for me,” said Davis when asked about the NFL draft and waiting for possible phone calls. “Though I was kind of disappointed with no word by the time I went to bed Sunday night, I can see God working through all of this. The Bills called my agent on Monday, and there couldn’t be a better team for me to workout with.”

Buffalo did not select a wide receiver among its 8 picks in last weekend’s draft, but the Bills, who are coming off a 7-9 season, did sign Pro-Bowl receiver Terrell Owens during the off-season.

Davis is 1 of several players associated with Azusa Pacific football last year to garner additional looks from NFL teams. Longtime Cougar foe University of San Diego has 2 players moving onto NFL summer workouts. Central Washington has 2 players sign a free agent contracts, and West Texas A&M had 2 players drafted into the NFL.

“We’re playing great competition and both our opponents and our players are drawing the attention of NFL teams ,” said Cougar coach Victor Santa Cruz. “I’m proud of Jon and am confident that he will show well with the Bills.”
