AZUSA, Calif. -- Junior running back Terrell Watson added National Offensive Player of the Week honors to the GNAC Player of the Week award he received earlier this week for his record-breaking performance in Azusa Pacific’s 44-36 Homecoming victory over Simon Fraser last Saturday.

Watson broke four Azusa Pacific records and tied another Cougar- and GNAC-record with his 28-carry, 302-yard, 5-TD effort, shattering the Cougars’ single-game rushing record of 248 yards previously held by Christian Okoye and Marcus Lampkin while tying the Azusa Pacific and GNAC single-game record with five rushing touchdowns. He also broke Azusa Pacific’s career records for rushing TDs, all-purpose TDs, and scoring.

Watson becomes the first player from Azusa Pacific to receive national player of the week honors from Earlier this season, Sean Barber was named the USA College Football national defensive player of the week after leading the Cougars to a 28-2 win over Humboldt State with 15 tackles (then a career-high), including 1.5 tackles for loss, along with two fumble recoveries.

Through the first six games this season, Watson has 938 yards rushing, putting him 742 yards away from Okoye's single-season rushing record of 1,680. His 12 rushing TDs puts him nine touchdowns away from Okoye's season record of 21, set in 1986.
