AZUSA, Calif. -- After clinching the program’s first-ever conference championship in football, Azusa Pacific has accepted an invitation from the National Christian College Athletic Association to play in the Victory Bowl, which will be played at noon (EST) on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Historic Barron Stadium in Rome, Ga.
The Cougars, who clinched the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship last weekend with a 23-20 win over Dixie State to move to 8-2 overall (8-1 GNAC), will take on Greenville College, which competes in NCAA Division III’s Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
“We’re humbled and excited for any chance to participate in postseason play, and we’re honored that the National Christian College Athletic Association selected us for this bowl game,” Azusa Pacific head coach Victor Santa Cruz said. “It’s a great reward honoring the hard work of a senior class which has done a phenomenal job leading this program to a successful season.”
Greenville, which owned the second-longest Division III winning streak entering last week’s regular-season finale, lost to St. Scholastica, 27-21, to finish the regular season with a 9-1 record. Greenville won last year’s Victory Bowl, defeating Northwestern (Minn.) in overtime, 28-27.
Tickets to the Victory Bowl are $15 each. Information regarding ticket purchase, as well as online audio and video links, will be available by Monday, Nov. 18.
