Eight members of the Azusa Pacific football were selected to the 2013 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Football Academic All-Conference Team. The Cougars, who have already secured the outright GNAC title heading into the final week of the regular season, had the second-highest total of representatives among GNAC football programs.
In all, 28 players earned the academic all-conference distinction, which included student-athletes who met criteria that included being in their second year at their school with a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average, while appearing in at least 50 percent of their team's games that season. Two of the Cougars’ eight honorees were listed with GPAs of at least 3.5, with senior LB Jake Henderson registering a 3.54 GPA. Azusa Pacific’s honorees included six seniors and two juniors.
"We take great pride in the scholastic achievements of our student-athletes, and academic success is a primary focus with our program," Azusa Pacific head coach Victor Santa Cruz said. "We're proud to see these student-athletes rewarded for their diligence as we see them achieve balance with their priorities. We appreciate the path that our provost Dr. Mark Stanton and the faculty use to guide their students in the way they challenge and educate the whole person."
Among the 28 honorees within the GNAC, there were 10 repeat selections, and six of the 10 repeat honorees came from Azusa Pacific.
