AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific began its official preparations for the 2014 football season on Monday, March 3, starting the first sessions in a 15-practice spring schedule that takes place throughout March and early April. The spring workouts will conclude with a scrimmage-style practice on Saturday, April 5.

“It’s great to be back on the field preparing for this upcoming season,” head coach Victor Santa Cruz said. “The senior class is motivated to continue the progress this program has made to be successful at the Division II level. With the first couple of practices already under our belt, it’s obvious to me the excitement and commitment these kids have to each other and to the program. We’re excited to be back, but we still have a long ways to go.”

Last season, Azusa Pacific went 10-2 overall in its second year of NCAA Division II competition, winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title with a 9-1 conference record. The Cougars concluded the year with a 67-0 victory over Greenville (Ill.) College in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Victory Bowl, giving Azusa Pacific its third 10-win season in program history.

Azusa Pacific’s spring football practices are open to all Azusa Pacific community members, including fans, students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Media access is available by arrangement through Azusa Pacific’s Sports Information office, which can be contacted by email (Click here to email) or phone (626-815-5085). High school coaches may request access to practices by contacting the Azusa Pacific football offices by email (Click here to email).
