COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Steven Lenhart, a 2007 NAIA All-American at Azusa Pacific, was nominated for the Major League Soccer Sierra Mist Goal of the Week after putting away the game-winner in Columbus’ 2-0 win over Colorado Saturday. The goal was one of five up for the award.
Lenhart’s 21st-minute tally was his first game-winner, and it was his third goal in the 7 games he has appeared. It came in his first MLS start, although he was sent off with a red card, another professional first for the 21-year old forward, in the 43rd minute.
Of players with at least 5 appearances, Lenhart is the MLS leader in goals per minute, tallying 3 goals in 117 minutes for an average of 1 goal per 39 minutes. His first league goal came in the closing minutes of Columbus’ 3-3 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy on June 21, with a large group of family and friends in attendance at The Home Depot Center to watch the Yorba Linda native in action.
Two games later, Lenhart was at it again, erasing a one-goal deficit at home against the Chicago Fire with an 88th-minute tally that secured a 2-2 tie on July 5.
Each of Lenhart’s MLS goals are currently available for free viewing on the Video/Audio page at the Crew’s official website, thecrew.com.
