AZUSA, Calif.-- For the second straight season and seventh time in program history, the NAIA’s 15th ranked Azusa Pacific men’s soccer team qualified for the NAIA National Tournament as the Cougars play host to Cal State San Marcos in the opening round on Nov. 19. “It obviously means a lot to the team to make the tournament,” said Head Coach Dave Blomquist. “It’s always one of our goals and the guys worked hard all year towards it.” In the latest RPI Azusa Pacific (12-3-3) fell one spot to No. 8, earning the team the 4th at-large bid, while San Marcos is making its first ever appearance after winning the Association of Independent Institutions tournament championship 3-1 over Thomas (Ga.). Azusa Pacific defeated San Marcos 2-0 at the Heritage Classic in Santa Barbara in the first ever meeting between the two teams earlier this season. “I’m glad we’re playing at home. They’re going to be better than they were earlier in the season,” said Blomquist. “We’re going to celebrate a little, but we’re going to start preparing right away.” If the Cougars win, they’ll advance to the national tournament site in Orange Beach, Ala. on November 28.
