SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- Despite generating an overwhelming amount of scoring opportunities, Azusa Pacific failed to find the net for the third straight match as The Master’s College scored early in the second half and went on to post a 1-0 win over the Cougars.

The loss is the Cougars’ third in a row to open GSAC play, and it is their third straight match in which they have out-shot the opposition but have failed to find the net.

The Cougars out-shot the Mustangs, 24-10, including 16-5 on goal. Mustang GK Ryan Burton snared 16 saves to post the shutout.

Less than 3 minutes into the second half, Burton collected one of his 16 saves and punted the ball down field. Luke Barnes won the ball, made a quick move to get by his defender and calmly blasted a left-footed shot into the net for a 1-0 Mustang lead in the 48th minute.

Burton and his teammates then repeatedly shut down multiple Cougar attacks to get the win.

With the loss, Azusa Pacific falls to 6-5 overall, 0-3 GSAC. The Master’s improves to 5-6-1 overall, 2-1 GSAC.
