Men's Soccer Slate Out

AZUSA, Calif. -- The schedule for the 2004 Azusa Pacific Men’s Soccer season has been released. The 33rd season of intercollegiate men’s soccer will feature 17 regular season games.

The Cougars open the season Friday, August 27 at the Heritage Classic hosted by Westmont where the Cougars will play Cornerstone (Mich.) on Friday and Holy Names from Oakland, Calif., Saturday.

In its home-opener, Azusa Pacific hosts the 18th Annual Cougar Classic September 10-11 with participating teams Westmont, Grand Canyon (Ariz.) and Concordia (Ore.). The Cougars play Concordia on Friday and Grand Canyon on Saturday.

The GSAC slate begins Tuesday, September 28 when the Cougars host GSAC champion and NAIA runner-up Fresno Pacific at 4 p.m. The Cougars will also make a cross-country trip to Georgia to face NAIA-power Berry (Ga.) and Thomas (Ga.) September 3-4.

Under the direction of head coach Phil Wolf, who is set to begin his fourth season at the Cougar helm, the Cougars finished 11-7 last season (5-5 GSAC) and returns 9 of 11 starters and has just 1 senior on this year’s squad. The Cougars have had 10 straight winning campaigns but have missed the playoffs each of the past 2 seasons, the first time the Cougars missed consecutive playoffs since 1987-89.
