THIS YEAR: Junior Grace Eleyae brings elements of speed and athleticism to the Cougar defense … Has seen action in a reserve role for 2 collegiate seasons and should push for playing time after the graduation of 2 key members of Azusa Pacific’s central defense.
2006 (Sophomore): Played in 8 contests, including 5 NAIA postseason games … Took 3 shots, putting 2 on goal.
2005 (Freshman): Appeared in 6 games … Used as a reserve in 3 of Azusa Pacific’s 5 postseason contests.
HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in 3 sports at Don Antonio Lugo High in Chino, playing 3 varsity seasons of soccer for head coach Al Becceril … Also competed 2 seasons in track and field and 1 season of basketball … Helped lead the Conquistadores to a 20-1-1 record as a 2005 senior … Placed third in CIF in the discus and the 4x100m relay as a 2003 sophomore.
PERSONAL: Born March 29, 1987, in Inglewood, Calif., to Matthew and Emilia Eleyae … Has 1 brother (Emmanuel) and 2 sisters (Glory, Angel) … Athletic bloodlines include older brother Emmanuel, who competed in discus and shot put for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and grandfather Awoture, who competed for the Nigerian national team in the long jump, javelin, discus and distance running events … Majoring in psychology with a minor in communication … Enjoys playing the piano.
