AZUSA, Calif. -- A trio of Azusa Pacific seniors capped their collegiate soccer careers with NAIA All-American and All-Tournament recognition, led by first-team picks Theresa Broad and Katie Rorabaugh and joined by third-team selection Lauren Lane.

Broad, who became just the second Cougar ever to repeat as Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year, is the first player from Azusa Pacific to merit NAIA All-American first team recognition all 4 years of her career. She led the GSAC in points (35) and goals (16) and wrapped up her brilliant career with 86 goals, just 4 shy of the program’s career scoring record. She scored 14 of her 16 goals during a 12-game stretch through the middle of the season, including a career-high 5-goal outburst in a 6-0 win over Trinity International (Ill.).

Rorabaugh, a 3-year starting central defender, was named an NAIA All-American for the third straight year, picking up first-team honors twice in her 3 years in the Azusa Pacific program. She scored 5 goals and registered 4 assists, ranking second on the team in assists and third in both goals and points, picking up her third consecutive All-GSAC award.

Lane made her first appearance on postseason awards lists with her NAIA All-American third team and All-GSAC selection. After 3 years as an outside defender, Lane moved into the Cougars’ central midfield and tallied 2 goals and 4 assists to help lead Azusa Pacific to its fifth straight conference title.

Joining the trio on the All-GSAC team, which featured Cougar head coach Jason Surrell’s seventh GSAC Coach of the Year award, were senior defender Tiffany Makinster, junior defender Delina Papa and sophomore midfielder Brittany Flanagan.

Makinster, a 3-year starting center back, earned All-GSAC recognition for the first time in her career. She started 65 consecutive games beginning during her 2007 sophomore campaign through this year’s season-ending scoreless draw in the NAIA Tournament semifinals. During the streak, Azusa Pacific posted 38 shutouts.

Papa is a junior defender who started all 22 games for the Cougars in 2009, helping lead the defense to 13 shutouts. It was the sixth consecutive season in which Azusa Pacific posted a double-digit shutout total. Flanagan was also a first-time All-GSAC honoree, scoring 2 goals and 3 assists on the year. In both of the games that she scored goals, she also assisted additional scores, and she started in 19 of the Cougars’ 22 games in 2009.

A trio of seniors along with 1 junior earned 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete recognition, with seniors Broad, Hayley Gustafson and Marissa Ranberger joining junior Jennie Cress on the list for their efforts on the field and in the classroom. All Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete recipients must be a junior or above in academic standing and have a minimum GPA of 3.50.
