AZUSA, Calif.-- After losing 11 seniors to graduation from last year’s squad that finished 12-2 in Pacific West Conference play, the Cougars are replenishing their line-up with nine commitments for the 2013 season. And while nine may seem like a lofty number, head coach Jason Surrell still expects it to increase before the fall season begins.
“I’m excited about our current commitments,” Surrell said. “They are all talented and impactful players. I think this group will give us an excellent chance to continue our success as a program.”
The Cougars lost a sizable portion of its team in November, seeing a goalkeeper, two defenders, six midfielders, and two forwards all leave after winning two GSAC titles, and claiming second place in their first year in the PacWest. The departures, however, leave room for the newcomers to add to the legacy.
“While losing 11 is huge, it’s nothing new having players graduate,” said Surrell. “All a coach wants to do is build the best team he can. We tried to prepare ourselves, and I think this recruiting class has what it takes to keep our program at the top.”
