AZUSA, Calif.-- After losing 11 seniors to graduation from last year’s squad that finished 12-2 in Pacific West Conference play, the Cougars are replenishing their line-up with nine commitments for the 2013 season. And while nine may seem like a lofty number, head coach Jason Surrell still expects it to increase before the fall season begins.

“I’m excited about our current commitments,” Surrell said. “They are all talented and impactful players. I think this group will give us an excellent chance to continue our success as a program.”

The Cougars lost a sizable portion of its team in November, seeing a goalkeeper, two defenders, six midfielders, and two forwards all leave after winning two GSAC titles, and claiming second place in their first year in the PacWest. The departures, however, leave room for the newcomers to add to the legacy.

“While losing 11 is huge, it’s nothing new having players graduate,” said Surrell. “All a coach wants to do is build the best team he can. We tried to prepare ourselves, and I think this recruiting class has what it takes to keep our program at the top.”

2013 Commitments

Courtney Camden: Defender, Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Valor Christian High School), Real Colorado

Camden is expected to make an immediate impact on the field for the Cougars with her size, speed and technical ability.

Sarah Klinkenberg: Goalkeeper, Orange, Calif. (Orange Lutheran), So Cal Infinity

Sarah Klinkenberg is one of two goalkeeper commits that Surrell is adding to the squad next season. She played club ball for So Cal Infinity, and will add to the Cougars with her sound technique and innate ability to read the game.

Victoria Kovatch: Midfielder, Santa Rosa, Calif. (Maria Carrillo High School), Santa Rosa United

Victoria Kovatch comes to the Cougars from her club team, Santa Rosa United, in Northern California. She is expected to see the field as a freshman and make her mark as a key midfielder.

Devon Mulholland: Defender, Danville, Calif. (Mote Vista High School), Mustang Revolution

Devon Mulholland is another Northern California addition. She played club for the Elite Mustang Club in Danville. As a defender, Mulholland is known for her strength and size.

Hayley Patterson: Defender, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Cheyenne Mountain High School), Pride Predators

Hayley Patterson is anticipated to be a solid part of the back line for the Cougars. She played her club ball for the successful Pride Predators in Colorado Springs.

Katelyn Rogers: Forward, La Habra, Calif. (La Habra High School), West Coast FC

Katelyn Rogers is a Southern California native from the West Coast FC club. She is currently leading the Freeway League in CIF Southern Section with 27 goals at La Habra HS.

Lindsey Ryals: Forward, Monument, Colo. (Lewis Palmer High School), Pride Predators

Ryals comes to the Cougars from Monument, Colorado where she played for her club team, the Pride Predators. Lindsey is a tall and strong forward that is looked at to help the team to victories this coming fall.

Haley Williamson: Midfielder; Air Force Academy, Colo. (Air Academy High School), Pride Predators

Haley Williamson also played for the Pride Predators in Colorado. She is expected to make her mark right away next year in the midfield.

Kristin Wilson: Goalkeeper; Yorba Linda, Calif. (Yorba Linda High School), Tustin FC

Kristin Wilson is the second goalkeeper that the Cougars are adding to the team for the 2013 season. She played club for the local Tustin FC club, and is known for her athleticism and solid hands.
