Portland, Ore. – The NAIA’s No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific scored a goal in each half to upend No. 11 Simon Fraser (B.C.), 2-0, in Portland, Ore. for its first win of the 2003 campaign.
The Cougars, who tied Concordia (Ore.), 0-0, last night, fired on all cylinders tonight.
Freshman Ellen Clark highlighted her first career start with her first career goal in the 30th minute off an assist from fellow freshman Heidi Hofmann to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
All-American Erin Arbizu then made it 2-0 with in the 70th minute when she booted in Shannon Coe’s throw-in.
Sophomore Tiffany Mitchell needed to make 2 saves in picking up her second win and running her scoreless streak to 200 minutes. She has yet to allow a goal in 2 games this season.
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 1-0-1 on the season. The Cougars host Cal State L.A. Friday (Sept. 5) at 7 p.m.
