THIS YEAR: Perhaps the Cougars’ top newcomer, freshman Cassie Treischel is expected to make an offensive impact from the outset of the season … Is likely to lock down a starting position at second base … Should hit for average but does have pop in her bat … Noted for a steady glove.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 4-year varsity letter winner at Santiago High in Corona, Calif., where she played for head coach John Perez … Was a 2-time All-Mountain View League first team honoree … Also captured All-CIF second team recognition as a 2006 junior when she helped lead the Sharks to a 26-5 record and the CIF Division I championship, the second in her 4-year career at Santiago … Guided Santiago to a 26-6 record as a 2007 senior … Also played one season of varsity volleyball.

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 9, 1989 in Anaheim, Calif. … Parents are Kevin (teacher) and Carla (secretary) Treischel … Has 2 brothers (Kevin, Ryan) and a sister (Dawn) … Her father is the track & field coach at Santiago High … Majoring in liberal studies … Would like to be an elementary school teacher.
