Jennifer Woods

Woods comes to Azusa Pacific after spending the 3 years at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., where she played 2 seasons for the Crusaders as a third baseman and pitcher. As a 2005 freshman, she earned All-Heart of America Athletic Conference second team recognition at third base after batting .365 and slugging a school-record 16 home runs. She tallied 9 game-winning hits for the Crusaders, who finished the campaign 47-11, ranked No. 12 in the NAIA (highest ranking in school history), and because of Woods’ leadership set a school team season record with more than 55 home runs. Woods sat out the 2006 season but returned to the Crusaders in 2007, batting .252 with 8 doubles, before shutting down her career for health reasons.
Woods prepped at Anthony Wayne High School in White House, Ohio, from where she graduated in 2003. She was a 2-time all-state honoree, including first-team recognition as a pitcher following her senior year when she led the Generals to the Ohio high school division I state title. Woods did not allow a run in 8 state playoff games in 2003, including the state championship game when she fired a 2-hitter and struck out 11 in the Generals’ 2-0 victory over Gahanna Lincoln High. She finished the season with a 24-4 record. As a 2002 junior, she garnered honorable mention all-state recognition as a third baseman. For her career, she was a 4-time All-Northern Lakes League honoree as well.
Out of high school Woods signed with and attended NCAA Division I Charleston (S.C.) Southern University where she opened her 2004 freshman season as a starter for the Buccaneers, appearing 10 games, including 4 as a pitcher, before being granted a medical hardship. She transferred to Evangel the following season.
Beyond high school, Woods also played for Competitive Edge International in 2005 and was a teammate with Webber on a softball squad that toured East Asia.
Woods, 24, is currently completing her bachelor’s degree in physical education at Azusa Pacific and is planning to continue her postgraduate work at Azusa Pacific as well.
